Another caricature, this time of comedian/ actor, everyone's favorite 40 year old virgin, Steve Carell. He has also starred in several Hollywood films, including Anchorman, Little Miss Sunshine, Evan Almighty, Dan in Real Life, Get Smart, and Date Night; and voiced characters in the animated films Over the Hedge, Horton Hears a Who!, and Despicable Me. This is one funny dude and another great subject to caricature.

Big Will
More caricature practice. This time I decided to do a colored piece taken to more of a finished level, of a celebrity. So my subject was Will Smith. I didn't quite get the smirk he's known for, but I was happy with the outcome overall. At fist while sketching I knew I wanted to exaggerate his ears, but the sketch versions ear was too pointed and elf like. This was fine as I knew I would reshape it as I painted it. It was tricky for me to keep him from looking too much like President Obama with the ears. It's amazing how far he has come in his career from Rap artist, to The french Prince television show, to the big blockbuster actor he is today. He has truly had a blessed career, and makes a helluva subject for caricature as well. My favorite Will Smith movies are the Men In Black flicks.

More caricature exploration
Here's a couple of process shots of another caricature face study. I chose this subject because of his weird head, huge nostrils, and reseeding hair, LOL. I thought it would be a good practice and challenge.

Motorcycle Gas tank Design
This is a design I have been working on for my friend and fellow tattoo artist Ricky Ranson. He wanted to send a statement to all the people who run him off the road on the way to work, because they are too busy talking on their cell phones when they should be watching the road. Ricky commissioned me to do the illustration, so he can air brush the image on his tank. I'll be sure and post pictures of the tank when it's done, for now here are some process shots explaining some of my process.
First the initial sketch based on the clients description:
Once the sketch is approved, I scan the sketch in and start laying down some base color,
From there I will start to overlay color, still not sure what direction I want to go in, so I just work quick, loose, and sloppy in the beginning.
Now I'm starting to warm up and get an idea for the direction the piece is going to take and how I want your eye to move around the piece.
Starting to refine the colors and details now. From here on the rest is just about cleaning it up and adding details.
And the final render, I hope you dig it

caricature sketching
Here's some caricature sketches done directly in Photoshop with no real sketch lines as a start. Instead I sketched with tonal values, concentrating on the shapes and forms of the face and it's features. This is a technique I learned from watching artist like Joe Bluhm and Jason Seiler work. These are not meant to be finished by any means, they are just sketches, so they are full of mistakes, but it's fun and a great learning process to work this way. If I wanted to refine these, it would not be difficult to do from this stage.

Vampires, Angels, and motorcycle road rage
This first drawing features one of the vampire queens from the story I am working on written by my good friend Scott Madden. The scary guy in the background is a character we call the master of souls.
First the thumbnail:
And the tighter pencils:
And here is a design I did for a friend. He's going to be taking my painting and airbrushing it on his tank. I'll be sure and post the process after he finishes it along with my finished painting. Basically he's sending a message to all the people that run him off the road on a daily basis, because they are busy talking on their cell phones instead of keeping an eye on the road.
Next is a tattoo I did today of a piece that is available on my online store as a print. I call it Raziel , the Angel of Mystery. My wife Vicky is the model for the warrior angel. In the original painting I put the name of GOD on her forehead in angelic script and my name is on the sword, but I left all of that out of the tattoo.
below is the original piece, followed a few tattoo pics:

Deadly Mai Lin
I named her Mai Lin after a cute little Vietnamese 2 year old that I met while working at as a cashier at a Vietnamese take out restaurant when I was a teen. She would get the cooks angry, because she would yell out the names of dishes and they would think someone placed an order so they would cook the dish. This worked in my favor, since I got to eat it, so it would not go to waste. We were an awesome team, me and my baby faced gangsta Mai Lin.
