Tommy Lee Jones (born September 15, 1946) is an American actor and film director. He has received three Academy Award nominations, winning one as Best Supporting Actor for the 1993 thriller film The Fugitive.
His notable film roles include federal marshal Samuel Gerard in The Fugitive and its sequel U.S. Marshals, the villain "Two-Face" in Batman Forever, terrorist William Strannix in Under Siege, Agent K in the Men in Black films, former Texas Ranger Woodrow F. Call in Lonesome Dove, Ed Tom Bell in No Country for Old Men, a Texas Ranger in Man of the House and rancher Pete Perkins in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. Jones has also portrayed real-life figures such as businessman Howard Hughes, executed murderer Gary Gilmore, Oliver Lynn in Coal Miner's Daughter and baseball great Ty Cobb.
Below is the finished piece ( you can see the process shots on the last post) of Tommy Lee Jones playing Agent K from The Men In Black movies. I created a few custom brushes in photoshop that had a nice texture and painterly look to them. I have to thank Artist and art teacher Bobby Chiu for teaching me how to make these kinds of brushes, I took his painting course at Schoolism.com last year and learned tons. I shared a close-up that allows you to see some of the texture from the brushes.

Stylized z-brush sketch
A quick Z-brush sketch before bedtime. This one was loosely based on the Gorillas from Kung-fu panda. I carried it over into photoshop for some paintover work, but this was just practice so it remains a sketch.

Forest Enviro
A quick one before bed time. It started out as a speed painting, but I think I will spend another day refining it. Loosely inspired by the Halo franchise. I have to go back in there and refine the forest, and paint out and over the more obvious custom brush work, like the forground leaves. The Leaf brush gave me a good base though and filled in areas quickly.

Z-brush class with Michael Defeo
I just started a 9 week Z-brush course at schoolism.com with instructor Michael Defeo. Very excited to take these classes, the instructor explains everything in a very user friendly manner. He has done character design for Blue Sky studio's Robots, Ice Age, Despicable Me and much more. You can see his work on his blog, some very cool stuff. http://michaeldefeo.blogspot.com/
The first assignment was to sculpt a rough character bust based on Defeo's drawing. We will be adding hair and other geometry as we go on. Below is the beginning of my assignment.

Christopher Walken caricature W.I.P.
A couple of progress shots of my Christopher Walken caricature. The first is the initial ball point pen sketch done in my sketchbook. I scanned it in and started to tone the sketch in grey tones using the soft airbrush in photoshop. Next I will start to glaze color over the grey tones and continue to adjust the shapes and details along the way. I'll post the finished piece soon.

R.I.P. Jean Giraud AKA Moebius
Sad news today, I woke up the find out that one of my heroes has past. Rest In Peace friend. Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (8 May 1938 – 10 March 2012)[1][2] was a French comics artist, working in the French tradition of bandes dessineés. Giraud earned worldwide fame, not only under his own name but also under the pseudonym MÅ“bius, and to a lesser extent Gir, the latter appearing mostly in the form of a boxed signature at the bottom of the artist's paintings.
Among his most famous creation was the Western comic series "Blueberry" which he cocreated with Jean-Michel Charlier, one of the first Western anti-heroes to appear in comics. Under the pseudonym Moebius he created a wide range of science fiction and and fantasy comics in a highly imaginative and surreal almost abstract style, the most famous of which are Arzach and the Airtight Garage of Jerry Cornelius, and the The Incal. Blueberry was adapted for the screen in 2004. Many of his strips were reprinted here in the states in Heavy Metal magazine.
He died of cancer on 10 March 2012 at age 73 in Paris.
