Steampunk Beast

I call this one Woman's Best Friend. Although the woman and her pet do not resemble my wife, I drew inspiration for this piece after I got my wife a baby Pitbull for our anniversary last year. I thought to do something more steampunk / fantasy inspired as well. I would imagine that big boy has no problem getting around that rough terrain. He sort of reminds me of the guardian / protector dog in the alien movie I Am Four :) Thanks for stopping by, enjoy!!!!

Heavy Metal Magazine

So I am happy and proud to announce that I am featured in this month's issue of Heavy Metal Magazine's artist showcase section. Thanks to my good friend Kevin Eastman co-creator of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the rest of the crew for allowing me to be a part of such a historical art magazine in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy genre. I collected Heavy Metal as a young man and was so inspired by all the great artwork that graced the covers and interiors every month. Artist like Moebius, Frazetta, Vaughn Bode, Jeffrey Jones, Bernie Wrightson, H.R. Giger, Simon Bisley, Azpiri, Frazatto, Milo Manara, Arthur Suydam, and the list goes on and on, have contributed to the magazine's amazing artwork over the years. This month's issue is no exception, I'm definitely in good company with the awesome talent, so I hope everybody picks up a copy :) Below is the cover featuring art by uber talented fantasy artist Michael C. New Art Book

I'm putting together an art book of my works. The book is coming together lovely. I'll update as it progresses. Centaur

Messing around in z-brush 4r4 again. This time a centaur creature concept. I am starting to get a little bolder with my sculpts now, but not quite there yet. It serves it's purpose though, as I'm gonna carry the sculpt over to photoshop to come up with variations and textures, and renders. Below the face variations are the turn arounds and the process shots showing the z-sphere , z-sketch, and some early sculpting and shape exploration. Thanks for stopping by, ENJOY:)

Abstract Environments

Here are a series of unique environment thumbnails that I generated by using some abstract compositions as a starting point. I have fun coming up with something from the chaos of the abstract shapes. I get to generate ideas that I may not have normally come up with by letting the abstract shapes dictate the direction of the image and it's components. Below the thumbnails are the nine abstract compositions I made to paint over.

One eyed Ogre

This Cyclops was inspired by Stop Motion Animation great, Ray Harryhausen. Some of my earliest memories and influences can be traced back to Ray's creature creations in movies like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Mighty Joe Young, Jason and the Argonauts, and The Clash Of The Titans, Just to name a few.

This Old Soul is the last of his kind. He has vowed never to leave his post until the time appointed. Inspired by the Forest Ents of The Lord Of The Rings movies.

Santa's Hidden city

This is a concept I developed about a secret portal that Santa would have to pass through to get in and out of his hidden city somewhere in the North Pole. The idea here is that although Santa lives in the North Pole, his city is not visible with the naked eye, or so easy to get to without a special map and instructions. I may revisit this concept to show the hidden city and maybe the elf factory where they make the toys. This piece focuses on the trail leading in and out of the city and the portal, which is a huge highly advanced structure that is in the shape of a Christmas tree. I though it would be neat to have a bunch of huge toy statues on either side of the trail, sort of like a Christmas version of ancient Egyptian pyramids and statues. I also posted a few close ups of the huge toy statues and a Nativity scene made up of Lego people.

Welcome to My Blog. I finally decided to give in and start one of my own. Anyone that knows me ,knows that I am a sketchaholic. I intend to update this blog regularly, so I hope you stop by often and feel free to leave a comment. I will be posting daily practice sketches and exercises that I do to keep my skill level up and also help to keep those creative juices flowing.
