R.I.P. Muhammad Ali

I was sad to hear about the passing of the Champ this past June 3, 2016.  Being a fighter myself, I can't begin to speak on how influential Ali was to me in my life, He was truly unique, there will never be another like him.  Below is a quick painterly sketch of the G.O.A.T. Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, The Iron Man

R.I.P. Prince

I'm Still kind of shocked at the news about the passing of Prince.  Prince was an extraordinary talent in my opinion and will be greatly missed by all of his fans.  He has always been a fun subject for me to caricature because of his many different looks and wardrobe choices.  I loved that he fought hard for creator rights, a battle that artist should always continue to bring awareness to.  Below is another caricature I did of Prince from the Purple Rain album cover and movie poster.  My condolences to his family , friends , and fans the world over. Bruce Lee

Here is another Bruce Lee caricature I did.  A good excuse to try out some new textured brushes I am messing with.  I really like the Impasto effect that they are achieving.  I decided to keep this loose and not over render.  I like the loose painterly style.  Below is a work in progress shot with a bit of a close up to show off some of the brush strokes.   Prints available Here. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone. Below is a caricature of Actor Michael B. Jordan in his role in The Rocky franchise spin off, "Creed", out today in theaters. The former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa serves as a trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed. I look forward to checking out the film. Danny Trejo

Danny Trejo, born May 16, 1944 is an American actor who has appeared in numerous Hollywood films, often as hypermasculine characters, villains and anti-heroes. His films include Heat (1995), Con Air (1997), and Desperado (1995), the latter with frequent collaborator Robert Rodriguez. Trejo is perhaps most recognized as the character Machete, originally developed by Rodriguez for the Spy Kids series of movies and later expanded into Trejo's own series of films aimed at a more adult audience. He also appeared in TV shows such as Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy.

Alfred Hitchcock

Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was an English film director and producer, often nicknamed "The Master of Suspense". He pioneered many elements of the suspense and psychological thriller genres. He had a successful career in British cinema with both silent films and early talkies, and became renowned as England's best director. Hitchcock moved to Hollywood in 1939 and became a US citizen in 1955.

Over a career spanning half a century, Hitchcock fashioned for himself a recognizable directorial style. His stylistic trademarks include the use of camera movement that mimics a person's gaze, forcing viewers to engage in a form of voyeurism. In addition, he framed shots to maximize anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative forms of film editing. His work often features fugitives on the run alongside "icy blonde" female characters. Many of Hitchcock's films have twist endings and thrilling plots featuring depictions of murder and other violence. R.I.P. Christopher Lee

From wikipedia : Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee, (27 May 1922 – 7 June 2015) was an English actor, singer and author. With a career spanning nearly 70 years, Lee initially portrayed villains and became best known for his role as Count Dracula in a sequence of Hammer Horror films. His other film roles include Francisco Scaramanga in the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), Saruman in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001–2003) and The Hobbit film trilogy (2012–2014), and Count Dooku in the final two films of the Star Wars prequel trilogy (2002 and 2005). Lee was knighted for services to drama and charity in 2009, received the BAFTA Fellowship in 2011 and received the BFI Fellowship in 2013. Lee considered his best performance to be that of Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the biopic Jinnah (1998), and his best film to be the British horror film The Wicker Man (1973). Always noted as an actor for his deep strong voice, Lee was also known for his singing ability, recording various opera and musical pieces between 1986 and 1998 and the symphonic metal album Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross in 2010 after having worked with several metal bands since 2005. Leonard Nimoy, R.I.P.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Actor Leonard Nimoy, better known the world over as Mr. Spock from Star trek, this last weekend.  I had actually started the caricature below a few weeks before I heard the news, so it was even more surreal to me. He will be missed.  Here is a few lines about the actor from Wikipedia: Leonard Simon Nimoy (March 26, 1931 – February 27, 2015) was an American actor, film director, poet, singer-songwriter, and photographer. He was known for his role as Mr. Spock of the Star Trek franchise. Nimoy began his career in his early twenties, teaching acting classes in Hollywood and making minor film and television appearances through the 1950s, as well as playing the title role in Kid Monk Baroni. Foreshadowing his fame as a semi-alien, he played Narab, one of three Martian invaders in the 1952 movie serial Zombies of the Stratosphere. In 1965, he made his first appearance in the rejected Star Trek pilot "The Cage", and went on to play the character of Spock until 1969, followed by eight feature films and guest slots in the various spin-off series. The character has had a significant cultural impact and garnered Nimoy three Emmy Award nominations; TV Guide named Spock one of the 50 greatest TV characters. After the original Star Trek series, Nimoy starred in Mission: Impossible for two seasons, hosted the documentary series In Search of..., narrated Civilization IV, and made several well-received stage appearances. H.P. Lovecraft, Rodney Dollah's Little Book Of Monsters and Halloween 2014

So it's been awhile since my last post, as I have been busy juggling a lot of projects, but I can't pass up the opportunity to post some creepy stuff this time of year. First I have to mention that vol.2 of Rodney Dollah's Little Book Of Monsters is now available right in time for Halloween. I had some of my work featured in vol. 1 and this year's volume is even bigger than the last one. It features some seriously talent artist from all over the world (I'm in good company), So if you are a lover of monsters don't miss out, you can order your copy and learn more about the project here. This is a cool and unique project as it is released every year right on time for Halloween and features a very diverse group of artist. ...And that brings me to my H.P. Lovecraft piece. The publisher of Little Book Of Monsters asked if I would put together an H.P. Lovecraft painting to go along with my tribute to H.R. Giger for Vol. 3. You can check out the H.R. Giger here. Joan Rivers

Sad to hear we lost another gifted Funny person. From Wikipedia: Joan Alexandra Rosenberg (June 8, 1933 – September 4, 2014), known by her stage name Joan Rivers, was an American actress, comedian, writer, producer, and television host, best known for her stand-up comedy, for co-hosting the E! celebrity fashion show Fashion Police, and for starring in the reality series Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? alongside her daughter Melissa Rivers. Rivers first came to prominence in 1965 as a guest on The Tonight Show, a pioneering late-night program with interviews and comedy, hosted by Johnny Carson, whom she acknowledged as her mentor. The show established her particular comic style, poking fun at celebrities, but also at herself, often joking about her extensive plastic surgery. When she launched a rival program, The Late Show, Carson never spoke to her again. She went on to host a successful daytime slot, The Joan Rivers Show, which won her a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host. Robin Williams

I was sad to hear the news Monday night of the passing of one of my favorite actors, Robin Williams. He had been battling Depression for many years and apparently committed suicide by hanging. There is an official police report about the incident here. The news about his passing prompted me to work on this caricature in his honor. In my opinion he was a genius of comedy, and as you can see from all the buzz about his death, I am not alone. He will be greatly missed by millions the world over. I have also wrestled with depression and suicidal tendencies throughout the years, I hope that if anything else this tragedy will bring more awareness to this horrible condition. Robin McLaurin Williams (July 21, 1951 – August 11, 2014) was an American actor and comedian.
