Steam Punk Spider Monkey

This one started out as a demo for a fellow artist at the tattoo shop I work at.  Inspiration came from movies such as Wild, Wild West and Men In Black, and my good friend Carlos Huante.  Below is the sketch followed by the  painting done in Corel Painter X3 and Photoshop CS6.  Thanks for stopping by, Enjoy !!!!

Painterly Studies

My good friend and art Mentor, Carlos Huante has been working with me on a few art techniques to get my animal and human anatomy up to par. Mostly going back to basics and working traditionally as often as possible. He also put me on to a bunch of artist I had never heard of before and some that I knew of, but I am studying a lot closer lately. Carlos referred me to The New Masters Academy and in particular one of their instructors, an artist by the name of Steve Huston. Steve's work is just beautiful. He quickly became a favorite of mine. I love watching his painting and figure drawing lectures on The New Masters Academy site. Below are a couple of Paint studies based on some of Steve's work. Thanks for stopping by, Enjoy!!!!

Clint Eastwood Creature?

Book project update: So I got a few more votes to push my Book project. That's awesome, thanks to everyone who has supported and shared my info so far. I made sure I got a pic of the sketch so I can paint over it. I always love signing autographs and sketching for people. It forces you to work purely from imagination and only reference what you have in your mind. In this case it was artist H.R. Creature Creation

Here is a painting I did recently exploring the techniques of creature designer Carlos Huante. Carlos is a super talented designer whose work inspires me tremendously. He has been very cool to me as well, always offering great art advice or just taking the time to chat from time to time. He has worked on a variety of film and game projects throughout the years, If your not familiar with his work, you can check out his website Here. His books are available on The Design Studio Press site. And the DvD tutorials that I referenced for this exercise can be found on the Gnomon Workshop site available as a digital download, hard copy, or as part of a yearly subscription Here. He also has a fantastic self published art book called Blind Spot that can be purchased by following the links on his site. I have all his stuff and I highly recommend all of it. I look forward to any future work he has in the pipeline. So here it is, i'll post more of these as I finish them. Creatures

So here is some more thumbnails done for Anthony Jones's Creature design course. I did a quick study of a rhino with some studies of the skeleton structure. I got some great advice from creature designer Carlos Huante after he reviewed some of my work, that involves me doing alot more of these type of exercises to ground my designs more. Carlos is one of my favorite creature designers, and the advice he gave was invaluable, Thanks Man:) The next couple of thumbnails were inspired by the Scribbler Too sketches I posted earlier on this blog. Keeping Anthony Jones's techniques in mind and letting the abstract shapes dictate the direction I go in with the creatures. I will most likely select a few of these and make finished pieces out of them in the near future. Next is a few cartoony thumbnails and a zombie pinocchio done for two different clients. These designs are not being used , so I might as well share them here. Enjoy!!!
