Creature Creation
Here is a painting I did recently exploring the techniques of creature designer Carlos Huante. Carlos is a super talented designer whose work inspires me tremendously. He has been very cool to me as well, always offering great art advice or just taking the time to chat from time to time. He has worked on a variety of film and game projects throughout the years, If your not familiar with his work, you can check out his website Here. His books are available on The Design Studio Press site. And the DvD tutorials that I referenced for this exercise can be found on the Gnomon Workshop site available as a digital download, hard copy, or as part of a yearly subscription Here. He also has a fantastic self published art book called Blind Spot that can be purchased by following the links on his site. I have all his stuff and I highly recommend all of it. I look forward to any future work he has in the pipeline. So here it is, i'll post more of these as I finish them. The sketch was done with Col-erase prismacolor pencil and the painting in Corel painter X3 and Photoshop cs6. Thanks for stopping by, Enjoy!!!

Artic Base Enviro concept
This is the finished piece, (or I should say more polished), of the last wip post. I started it a few years ago while watching David Levy's custom brushes tutorial from The Gnomon Workshops. It was kind of abandoned then I decided to finish it up, so here it is.

Alien Creation
Messing around with a technique I read about in Scott Robertson's book, Alien Race, published by Design Studio Press. He mentions in the book that he and creature designer Neville page were messing around with the mirror function on his web cam and came up a great way to design alien characters for the book. This is an awesome way of coming up with some iterations of aliens , but can also be used for Props, weapons and just about anything else your imagination can come up with. I recommend picking up the Alien race book as it is full of inspiration throughout. I own many of the books published by Scott's Design Studio Press, and I have a few of Scott and Neville's Gnomon Workshop DVDs. Both these guys are awesome artist/ teachers. Thanks to Scott, Neville and the rest of the artist featured in Alien Race for sharing your techniques. I'll be posting more of my experiments with this workflow in the near future.
