Steam Punk Spider Monkey

This one started out as a demo for a fellow artist at the tattoo shop I work at.  Inspiration came from movies such as Wild, Wild West and Men In Black, and my good friend Carlos Huante.  Below is the sketch followed by the  painting done in Corel Painter X3 and Photoshop CS6.  Thanks for stopping by, Enjoy !!!!

Tommy Lee Jones as Agent K

Tommy Lee Jones (born September 15, 1946) is an American actor and film director. He has received three Academy Award nominations, winning one as Best Supporting Actor for the 1993 thriller film The Fugitive.

His notable film roles include federal marshal Samuel Gerard in The Fugitive and its sequel U.S. Marshals, the villain "Two-Face" in Batman Forever, terrorist William Strannix in Under Siege, Agent K in the Men in Black films, former Texas Ranger Woodrow F. Call in Lonesome Dove, Ed Tom Bell in No Country for Old Men, a Texas Ranger in Man of the House and rancher Pete Perkins in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. Jones has also portrayed real-life figures such as businessman Howard Hughes, executed murderer Gary Gilmore, Oliver Lynn in Coal Miner's Daughter and baseball great Ty Cobb.

Below is the finished piece ( you can see the process shots on the last post) of Tommy Lee Jones playing Agent K from The Men In Black movies. I created a few custom brushes in photoshop that had a nice texture and painterly look to them. I have to thank Artist and art teacher Bobby Chiu for teaching me how to make these kinds of brushes, I took his painting course at Schoolism.com last year and learned tons. I shared a close-up that allows you to see some of the texture from the brushes.

Big Will

More caricature practice.  This time I decided to do a colored piece taken to more of a finished level, of a celebrity.  So my subject was Will Smith.  I didn't quite get the smirk he's known for, but I was happy with the outcome overall.  At fist while sketching I knew I wanted to exaggerate his ears, but the sketch versions ear was too pointed and elf like.  This was fine as I knew I would reshape it as I painted it.  It was tricky for me to keep him from looking too much like President Obama with the ears.  It's amazing how far he has come in his career from Rap artist, to The french Prince television show, to the big blockbuster actor he is today.  He has truly had a blessed career, and makes a helluva subject for caricature as well.  My favorite Will Smith movies are the Men In Black flicks.

Animal Caricature

This guy reminds me of Frank the Pug from Men In Black 2. I did this to force myself to work in Corel Painter more, and the wrinkles on the pug's face are good practice.
