Practice, Practice, Practice

This is an assignment from my class of character design with Stephen Silver. He had us do a portrait of a man from a photo he supplied, then take the same picture and create some cartoons of the face utilizing different shapes.

The second part of the assignment was to do a rough design of Jeckyl and Hyde Characters. My Jeckyl was inspired by Matthew McConaughey from the movie Amistad and Hyde was inspired by Anthony Hopkins from the same movie.
They have a long way to go, but these are the initial sketches and idea. I'll be fleshing them out further in the next couple of weeks.

And lastly here are some practice sketches of animal character designs and various hands ,feet, eyes, lips etc. (I need to make a point to do more hands).

BK-7

This is a robot concept that I had in one of my old sketchbooks. Up until now it was just a ball point pen doodle about 2in. by 2in. Still, the silhouette held up nice at that size, so I knew it would work when I blew it up and painted it. To make the design harmonize, I played up the shape by repeating the egg shapes throughout the design. I imagine this robot to be more of an industrial mechanic type robot. That thing on his shoulder is some kind of soldering gun, but it can double as a weapon if he needs it too. Stephen Spielberg's AI and anime movies like Ghost In the Shell 2 were influences for this character.
