Mech Suits and Plein Air Painting

I finished up this Mech today after taking my laptop to the park for some Plein Air painting. The Mech sort of reminds me of the anime Guyver. I still have a bunch of the VHS's somewhere:) Mech_AI_383 These thumbnail studies were done for Noah Bradley's 12 week summer boot camp. This was not easy to do digitally. I took an umbrella with me to try and block the glare on the screen, but to no avail. I could not tell what colors I was using at all. Still it was a great exercise and I will definitely do more when I can, hopefully with a better set up. Plein-Air_thumbs6_11_13

Zbrush Ant Creature

An Antman that wears a slug on his head???, Why not. I did this after watching the awesome Bryan Wynia do a few demos in a CG Workshop that CG Society released recently. Started out as a sculpt in z-brush, Then taken into photoshop and duplicated several times to come up with some variations on the same theme. I picked the thumbnail I liked the most and went back into Zbrush to sculpt and Polypaint a final. From there it's back into photoshop to composite some of the renders, paint over and add some more textures. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy!!! Antman_4_15_2013

Minotaur Concept

In Greek mythology, the Minotaur, was a creature with the head of a bull on the body of a man or, as described by Roman poet Ovid, "part man and part bull". He dwelt at the center of the Cretan Labyrinth, which was an elaborate maze-like construction designed by the architect Daedalus and his son Icarus, on the command of King Minos of Crete. The Minotaur was eventually killed by the Athenian hero Theseus. Here is a concept of the creature that I sculpted in z-brush and painted in Photoshop cs6. Z-brush Monsters

Here are a couple of quick blocked in beasties done in z-brush 4r5. I usually only take these so far, then carry them into photoshop for painting. I am getting more comfortable with digital sculpting though, so I may try to slowly push it further as I progress with the program. For now I am faster at painting, so I continue to concept that way.
