Final Frontier

Having fun messing around with Photoshops shapes tool. I'll be doing a series of these Sci-Fi environments soon. This one was inspired by one of my favorite Science Fiction artist John Berkey. Exploring Old Ruins

This piece started out as an experiment in technique. I knew I wanted to do some kind of "Look we stumbled upon a new discovery", piece, so that's what I set out to do, but as always I like to try out new and interesting ways to start the drawing and spark some happy accidents along the way. I did some random blotchy shapes to get an initial composition going, then I started to paint using a textured blocky brush as my smudge tool (photoshop cs6) It yielded interesting results, so I pushed further from there. Once I got to a certain place, I then switched to my own brushes and pushed forward. I was loosely drawing inspiration from the Ridley Scott film, Prometheus, but mostly from an article I read about a cave that was discovered recently in VietNam, called Son Doong. Supposedly the biggest discovery of it's kind yet. You can read about it Here. I titled the piece novo inventus, which means new discovery, find or invention in Latin. The only thing I did not think of, was were and when this is taking place. I'll leave that up to the viewer:) Thanks for stopping by, Enjoy!!!

future city concept

This was an old thumbnail I had saved a few years ago. I came across it looking through some old art and decided to try to breathe some life into it. So I very sloppy like, started to photo bash, fix the perspective and plop some paint over it. This is the result, a quick and dirty polished turd :) Still I like art that isn't always refined to completion. Thanks for stopping by, Enjoy!!!!

Sci-Fi Paintings

Here are a couple of sci-fi environments that I have not shared yet. The first one is a play on Moses speaking to the burning bush atop the mountain of GOD in the book of Exodus in the Bible. The ships in the second piece were kitbashed together from a bunch of shapes in z-brush. it kind of looked like a steam punk style ship to me from a distance so I decided to put it in a scene. Beam Me Up

This was an experiment using mostly the shapes tool and custom brushes in Photoshop cs6. I believe I was watching John Carpenter's They Live at the time, and I liked the idea of the teleportation device shown towards the end of the film. Making something out of the abstract is one of my favorite ways to work, especially with sci-fi environment stuff. Thanks for stopping by. enjoy!!!
